Activity park Family World and children´s driving school Jumicars provide entertainment for junior rally fans at Jyväskylä Paviljonki Service Park 1-4 August.
In addition to the top class, WRC, two support championships will be raced at the Finnish round of the WRC as well - Super 2000 cars and WRC Academy for junior drivers.
The world´s best WRC is created by the best atmosphere and following the common rules - please do your bit to maintain the tidiness of the rally area and take other spectators into account!
Speed on the gravel roads! 86 cars were entered to this year´s Neste Oil Rally Finland which is the highest number of cars in this year´s WRC.
FIA Action for Road Safety
The national sporting authority of Finnish automobile sports, AKK-Motorsport, passes on FIA´s road safety message in Neste Oil Rally Finland in form of a variety of events. In Lahti Harbour 2 August, the audience can take part in slow driving moped competition at 11.00-16.00 with a chance to win the grand prize - a Derbi scooter.
The competition is open for moped license holders aged 15-18 and first 200 to sign up on the spot are entered to the competition. Sponsoring the road safety campaign are Neste Oil, Michelin, Derbi and Liikenneturva, the central organisation for traffic safety in Finland.
Two Finnish drivers will be racing in the top WRC class, Mikko Hirvonen (Citroën Total World Rally Team) and Jari-Matti Latvala (Ford World Rally Team). Three other Finns will also be racing in WRC cars: Jari Ketomaa, Matti Rantanen and Riku Tahko.
In the Super 2000 class, eyes are fixed on Esapekka Lappi who got a wild card spot in the competition. Also Juha Salo will be competing in Super 2000 in Proton Motorsports factory team.
Planning on taking your own food to the rally area? By all means, but bear in mind that the new Finnish Rescue Act prohibits the use of disposable grills without the permission of the landowner. Unauthorized use of disposable grills might at worst lead to the interruption of a Special Stage.
The Rally HQ and Service Park of Neste Oil Rally Finland will again be filled with international rally fever 1-4 August. The centrally located Paviljonki is only a couple minutes walk from the nearby travel centre and the centre of Jyväskylä.
Neste Oil Rally Finland event area in Lahti Harbour welcomes competitors and spectators on Thursday 2 August at 11.00-18.00.
Arriving in Finland for the first time, Red Bull Tourbus is a festival stage on wheels, which brings top artists to perform at Lahti Jokimaa and Jyväskylä Killeri Super Special Stages, Jämsä Ouninpohja Special Stage and Lahti Harbour. Performing in the live concerts at Paviljonki are: 1 Aug the winner of Sporttimobiili and Hitlantis´ band contest (at 22.00), 3 Aug Suvi Teräsniska (at 22.00) and 4 Aug Los Bastardos Finlandeses (at 22.30).
´Where can you get one of those cool rally shirts?´ The renewed official Neste Oil Rally Finland merchandise is available online at www.kisatuotteet.com. During the rally, official merchandise marketed by Newtop is available at shops located at Paviljonki Service Park and Special Stages, in Lahti Harbour (2 Aug), and from vendors scattered along the route.
Good preparations are often the key to memorable rally experiences. Dress according to weather, be prepared for rain and bring your other personal necessities (all from mosquito repellent to prescription medicines and enough cash for a hot dog) and you are ready to head for the viewing area and enjoy the thrill of the race.
YLE Rally Radio will be broadcasting the whole of Neste Oil Rally Finland in the frequencies 99.3 (Jyväskylä), 97.9 (Lahti) and 97.0 (Pihtipudas). Online worldwide broadcasting is available at yle.fi/keskisuomi. The national Radio Suomi will also air extra sports broadcasts from the rally.
This year´s change in the rules of WRC brings extra excitement to the competition. Based on the results of Ruuhimäki Qualifying in Laukaa, Wed 1 Aug at 19.30, the drivers are able to choose their start order in the competition starting the following day. Start Order Selection will be held on Wednesday night at Jyväskylä Paviljonki Service Park at 21.30.
Neste Oil Rally Finland does not make compromises when it comes to safety of the spectators - and we expect the same from you. Please remember that the road of the Special Stage will be closed from walkers one hour before the stage starts, and watching the rally and crossing the road are only allowed in marked areas. Also be sure to park your car according to instructions and watch out for rocks that may fly from the rally cars racing by.
18 Special Stages during the three days of the competition: all from SS1 Koukunmaa to legendary SS18 Ouninpohja, the latter of which will be raced twice and concludes the rally as Power Stage televised throughout the world where the drivers race for extra WRC points.
Seven of the eight registered WRC teams will be competing in Neste Oil Rally Finland. The most exciting battle of the gravel roads will be between the currently leading team Citroën and close second Ford.
TV and online broadcasts
The host broadcaster of Neste Oil Rally Finland is MTV3. They will send several daily updates of the rally on the nation-wide free-to-air channel MTV3, plus on their digital pay-TV channel MTV3 MAX and online TV service Katsomo.fi. The rally will also be covered daily in all the MTV3 sports news (Tulosruutu).
